Looking Forward

With this good ol' sunny weather still hanging around it's getting us thinking about Summer already, and what better way to celebrate the upcoming season of joyful warm rays than by sharing with you some new Summer goodies that arrived today!

Wanting a new nail polish to brighten up your day? Look no further..

Lucy McIntosh is a kiwi designer from the big smoke, Auckland, making headlines in fashion with her classic, elegant and tailored designs. She understands the female form to a tee, and now she's topping off her looks with this beautiful collection of Lucy McIntosh Nail Polish. From oil-slick black to bright berry red, from classic nude to shocking frisson pink, this collection has it all to please the sophisticated laday. Pop in and try out the colours or just grab some online. At only $22 a pop for a quality polish you'll be sitting smug with your pretty new nails!

We were talking a while ago about our exciting new designers that will be gracing our racks this Summer, and now, to only add to our excitement, we've got our first piece from the wonderful, slick and sassy Silence Was...

The Like You Mean It Shirt is an edgy little button-up sleeveless number with the prettiest frill trim you could imagine! Fabricated out of the most stunning black cotton with a pattern of little white squares smattered about it, this shirt is definitely a must have for Summer. Cool, hip and just a little bit cute, she's calling out to you in the most meaningful way.

Thinking about Summer got me thinking of food. Okay, thinking about anything gets me thinking about food, but bear with me! Olives are definitely a love/hate food issue. Personally, I love these salty little beauties. If you're a lover of olives, check out 101 Cookbooks recipe for Gin Marinated Olives and get dreaming of warmer days.

Got you excited about Summer yet? Hope so! Keep following our blog and our Facebook page for all our updates on the new things that will entering our shop soon enough!

Foxy Friday

It's no secret that we adore our little critters here at Madame Fancy Pants, and we definitely love our foxes. They're wintery, they're snuggly and they are super cute!

Our latest additions to the racks of MFP are splashed with a pattern of pretty red foxes and come all the way Montreal. Say hello to our new Supayana Foxy Top and Foxy Dress!

These two beauties are the perfect throw on but still look stunning numbers. Made out of cotton and adorned with the cutest pair of foxes, both will transition well from Winter to Summer and back again. Ya'll love Supayana, so best be quick if you don't want to miss out! Foxy Dress HERE, Foxy Top HERE.

We've been receiving lots of exciting parcels this week. A little stack of Issue Twelve of our favourite local, crafty journal, Extra Curricular, has just landed in our laps today. And they have foxes on them!

This issue is all about storytelling and features a bunch of talented, creative people doing their thing and telling their stories. Pretty pictures, lovely stories and even a recipe for ginger cookies has snuck its way in (not saying that the recipes are my favourite part, but they kinda are, I can't deny it). The perfect gift for a creative type, or just treat yourself and settle down to a cuppa and your new favourite mag. Get it HERE.

While we're talking foxes, let's not forget our most adorable little friend who's been adorning our shadowbox with his cute little face for quite some time now.

He's so TINY!!! He's so cute! You can find him HERE. I want to eat him up. But I can't, because that would be very strange and would probably hurt my teeth. I can however eat this pie, which you should try your hand and baking this weekend. I don't know why, but apple pies and foxes seem to go very well together. Crazy? Probably. Smart? Yes.

Oh A Beautiful Mess, you never fail me! Check out their recipe for Apple and Bournbon Pie and get baking this weekend! After all that dancing last weekend, you kind of deserve it (it's healthy, it's got apples in it....)

Have a wickedly foxy weekend ladies and gents!

Dance, Dance, Dance The Night Away

It’s Friday! It’s sunny! To celebrate, grab a bunch of friends, a couple of drinks and your best dancing shoes and head out into town for a gig. There are some pretty wonderful gigs going on tonight, so take your pick from our suggestions, scroll on down for some inspiration as to what to wear and start getting ready.

First up in our super mini and very selective gig guide is Adam Page’s Fundraiser Gig for his big ol’ trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The lovely Adam Page is throwing a bit of a party to help him to survive the festival once he gets there. He’s a bucket load of talent and will be sure to please everyone with his wonderful range of music. According to Simon Sweetman, Adam’s the perfect mix of “straight and serious, comedic, demented; he can take your breath away… with some of the beautiful flute and sax sounds he coaxes. Then there's all the other instruments he layers in, vocal percussion, beatboxing, the works.” It’s set to be a good vibe with some awesome music and beer to match. Meow, from 9pm, $10 on the door. Claire's going, go dance with her! The Facebook event can be found HERE, Simon Sweetman’s write up can be found HERE.

If you’re into big, brash, bands with a bunch of attitude and a smash up of hip-hop, funk, soul and jazz then look no further than Brockaflowersaurus-Rex and The Blueberry Biscuits. The 9 piece Wellington band will knock your dancing socks off with their lush sounds and epic tunes. These guys are by far my favourite Wellington band and I always have the best dancing times at their gigs; it helps that all the band members are fantastic people who are heaps of fun to be around. They’re playing quite a small gig tonight at San Fran Bathhouse, with things kicking off at 9pm. It’s $15 on the door. Make sure you’re there early as there are only 150 door sales! The Facebook event can be found HERE and check out their tunes HERE.

You might have picked out your gig, but have you picked out your outfit? It’s always tough in Winter deciding what to wear to a gig. It’s brutally cold outside, but way too hot inside. My advice is to wear a dress, or skirt and blouse, with stockings and a couple of cardigans that aren’t overly precious. You can take the stockings off if you get too hot and the cardigans you can just stash somewhere off to the side or hook over your bag. I’d rather my cardigans go missing than a coat! (Also helps to have a friend in the band, because then you can beg for your stuff to be hidden backstage). Here’s a selection of outfits that would be perfect for a mid-Winter gig:

(1. Alice Nightingale Zelda Skirt and Clara Blouse, 2. Arielle Mermin Marianne Dress, 3. Chrissie Dress, 4. High Noon Tea Marcell Dress, 5. Celine Rita Bella Dress)

The other issue with gigs is a bag. Too big a bag and you’ll be annoying everyone around you on the dance floor and yourself. Go for small; bring your essential cards, cash, keys, phone and a lippy. Maybe even a roll on perfume if you’ve got the room! Here are our picks for small gig appropriate bags:

(1. SA I See You Baby Bag, 2. Norma Wallet, 3. KOA Calyx, 4. KOA Vane, 5. SA Destructive Romance Bag)

If you want to get the party started before you go, make these:

I didn’t really need to put those in this blog post, but I think someone needs to make them. They are so cute!

I hope this post has inspired you to dress up, go out, have some fun and dance the night away! Might see ya dancing!

Happy Friday!

If It's Gatsby, It's Great

The whole world seems to be going 20s mad; with Baz Luhrmann’s sparkling film, The Great Gatsby, setting it all off with a bang. The other week the girls from MFP and some lovely friends wandered on down to the Embassy for cocktails, chat and an evening with Jay Gatsby.

Image Courtesy of The Great Gatsby Film

The film was all kinds of glitz and glam, opulent and indulgent, and so damn pretty! It was an easy film to watch; straightforward and simple in story, sublime in visual beauty. What it was lacking in depth it made up for in the most glorious costumes, digitally perfected fantastical sets and the most epic of onscreen parties; think flowing champagne, glitzy flappers, dapper gents, all hedonistically dancing around to some serious hip-hop of today.

It’s easy to see how the world has suddenly become so obsessive with the Roaring Twenties. If you’ve been invited along to a Gatsby inspired event, want to throw one yourself, or simply want to embody a bit of Twenties glamour before heading to see the film, you’ve definitely stumbled across the right blog post.

Need some style inspiration? Take note of Daisy Buchanan’s look.

Daisy Buchanan (image courtesy of The Great Gatsby Film)

The image says it all; big glittering jewels and soft, neutral tones with a deco headdress to boot. Daisy consistently looks pretty, innocent and perfect; drop waists, glitter, pastel pinks, creams and lavenders. Make up is minimal and glowing. Think garden parties and lounging around in summer with your best friend, your favourite cake and a bottle of champagne. If an edgy look is more your thing, be sure to look to Daisy’s best friend Jordan Baker for some inspiration; harsh blacks, silky creams and yellows, masculine tailoring, slick bob, smoky eyes and red lips.

Once you’ve sorted your outfit, you’ll be sure to be looking for some deco inspired jewels that will make you every bit the flapper. So, have a proper look through Madame Fancy Pant’s ‘In Moonlight’ Collection.

Madame Fancy Pants

From crystals to skulls, delicate to bold, this collection really does have something for everyone. Plus, each piece fits perfectly within a Roaring Twenties world. That ‘This Little Light’ necklace definitely looks like it was nabbed straight out of Daisy’s jewellery box…

So, your look is (hopefully) sorted! If you want to grab a cocktail before you watch the film, we definitely recommend The Black Sparrow below The Embassy. It fully encapsulates 20s elegance. It even has a Gatsby inspired cocktail menu! If you head there on a Tuesday, like we did, you can save some cash and get two for one cocktails. So, drink up!

If your Gatsby event is all set up at home, you should try making your own cocktails. I sourced this ‘Golden Girl’ cocktail from the beautiful girls at A Beautiful Mess blog; with all that glitter it looks like something Jay Gatsby’s party guests would have a few of. The scrumptious recipe can be found HERE.

Once you've got your get up, your jewels and your drinks all prepped and ready to go, I think it’s time to get your party started!

Hope you enjoyed another stellar edition of our Wednesday blog, stay tuned for Friday’s gig inspired blog post!

New! M.F.P. Custom Handstamped Necklaces

Want to give a super personal, loving gift? Or maybe you've got a favourite song lyric or quote you want to wear around the place? Even if it's just to say a small "hi" or a big "I love you", these sweet little custom necklaces are for you!

It's simple, you have a choice of a beautiful brass charm (banner, tiny star, lightning bolt or starburst) and the length and type of chain that it will go on. You also choose what you want your charm to say; each charm has a certain number of letters that it can fit, so make sure you check out all four to find the perfect one for your chosen words. The charm is then handstamped and oxidised by the lovely Madame, Claire, who will be handcrafting your new necklace.

The chain is just as important as the charm and your message, so use this handy guide to pick the perfect one for you! You also get to choose the length of your chain; 45cm for those who like their necklaces short, 70cm for those who like their necklaces long. Just remember that the sterling silver chain will cost you a little extra ($20 for the 45cm, $30 for the 70cm).

After you've picked everything and bought your special gift, all you have to do is be really, really, really patient (I know, it's hard for me too) and wait for 5 working days (only 5 days- you can do it!) and then your necklace will be all created, ready and wrapped up for ya! Then you can gift it to that special someone who will be grinning for days and wearing your loving message on their necklace every, single day. Or, if you've gifted one to yourself, you can show it off to your friends who will all be so jealous of your lovely new Madame Fancy Pants custom made necklace.

So, what are you waiting for? Claire has got her jewellery making fingertips at the ready!

Today we'll be sharing some of the new clothes we have gracing our racks and giving you a sneak peak of some soon to come goodies; so, snuggle up, grab a cup of tea and have a leisurely look.

We have some gorgeous bright Celine Rita dresses that will be perfect for bringing a little cheer to this chilly weather. In classic shapes and candy colours, these frocks will be sure to make you look stunning and feel beautiful.

(These dresses, and more of Celine Rita, can be found HERE)

Check out that hot pink lace! Babing.

You might have seen or heard that we once again have a cabinet full of Status Anxiety wallets and a shelf stacked with their super cool bags. We love Status Anxiety, as do many of you, and in the next couple of weeks we'll be getting in some new friends to add to our collection; two smaller bags that will be perfect for slinging over your shoulder night and day, and the much talked about 'One Passing Moment' bag - made out of gloriously soft New Zealand lambs leather. Have a look, get excited, we'll let you all know when you can get your hands on them through our Facebook page; keep an eye on it, you don't want to miss out!

Drum roll please...

Did somebody say "Hey, 'I See You Baby', you classy, hip, cute, Italian Leather bag"? I thought so. With handy internal pockets and an external pocket for easy access to your most used items, this baby is perfectly pretty and practical.

Looking for a bigger bag to throw your kitchen sink into? Look no further..

The much talked 'One Passing Moment' is made of super soft New Zealand lamb leather, has a bunch of smart pockets and is lined in a statement black and white striped cotton. Super cute and can fit your whole world into it. What more could you want?

If those two aren't tickling your fancy, perhaps you're more of a classic kinda gal. This little bag might do the trick.

Could you really say no 'This Old Love' with it's super sweet deco detailing and simple design? Didn't think so.

If that wasn't too much of a Status Anxiety overload, you'll be excited to hear that we'll be getting the incredibly popular 'Some Secret Place' bag in a bubbly blue hue. Now that really will brighten up your day!

Wow. That's a lot of very pretty things to drool over! Hope you enjoyed that cup of tea and your leisurely look. Stay tuned for more news on what's going on here at Madame Fancy Pants; next blog post coming to you on Friday.

Happy Wednesday!
