Let's Support Our Creatives

Times are tough for our gigging and performing whānau - With covid about many gigs and shows are either cancelled, delayed or reduced in numbers. We've selected a number of fantastic shows from BATS Theatre this week. Our creative people need our support!
"BATS vision is to light-up lives through our work. We do this by identifying and realising the value BATS brings to its whānau, and developing new and dynamic ways to co-create. Through the meeting of digital and live art, bolstering BATS as a hub of creativity and showcasing diverse festival activity we support career sustainability and wellbeing for all.."

THE GHOST SHOW

OH THAT THEATRE COMPANY

A new queer comedy musical about the perils of love, cheap secondhand toasters, and waiting until it’s too late.

Eliza's happy flatting with her best friend Violet. She’s just waiting for the perfect moment to tell Violet that she’s a little bit completely in love with her. But when a late night snack mission goes tragically awry, Eliza discovers that she and Violet have been sharing their flat with three ghosts - and she has just become the fourth.

Oh That Theatre Company is a new team of emerging artists passionate about theatre that reflects our own lives and experiences. Our kaupapa is to create stories that are joyful, whimsical and exciting, and that represent our identities and selves in positive and uplifting ways.

MOKOMOKO

BY SHERILEE KAHUI

How do you heal from intergenerational trauma as the result of a genocide that people refuse to acknowledge? Asking for a friend…

Moko is stuck between a rock and a hard place. She feels that a stronger grounding in her identity will help her heal from personal trauma, but the more she learns, the more she finds there’s so much work to do. Join Moko on her quest to discover the truth of her origin story, and help her to stay on the path to becoming the wahine toa she was born to be.

With a Māori led team, presented in partnership with BATS Theatre as their final Co-Production under CNZ's Adaptation fund 2021, our rōpū hopes you'll join us to tautoko this insightful mahi.

I WANT WĀHINE MĀORI TO COME AND FEEL SEEN, HEARD AND EMPOWERED. THIS SHOW IS FOR US. I WANT TĀNE MĀORI TO LISTEN AND ENJOY THE LOLS BUT ALSO TAKE AWAY THAT THEY NEED TO HAVE OUR BACKS. I WANT OUR PĀKEHĀ AND TAUIWI MATES TO COME AND LISTEN AND STRENGTHEN THEIR ALLY-SHIP. REGARDLESS OF WHO THEY ARE OR WHERE THEY ARE COMING FROM, I HOPE PEOPLE FIND MOMENTS THAT RESONATE AND PERHAPS START TO FEEL LIKE THERE IS A WAY FORWARD PAST PERSONAL AND COMMUNAL TRAUMA.” -SHERILEE KAHUI
