Hunkering down for winter? Sparkle up your walls!

We’re a little bunch of magpies here at MFP (gold and silver sparkly things always catch our eye), so when we find goodies in gold, we know we have to have them!

So pop the soup on, grab a blanket and let's crack into MFP's treasure trove of goodies for your walls! (And if you need a great soup recipe, check out this one from My Darling Lemon Thyme)!

Charm & Gumption, all the way from Nashville, USA, design the coolest wee prints. Whether you need to Be Brave, Hustle or think What Would Beyoncé Do?, they've designed a print for you. Check out their full range here!

Clockwise from top left: Be Brave, Hustle, What Would Beyoncé Do? and Anything Could Happen

A little bit more local, our prints from Cloud Nine are just as nice, all sparkle and shine and feathery goodness. The Metallic Feather Print (A3) is a store favourite, with beautiful hints of yellow, green and navy woven in the feathers. Or if sparkly foil is your thing (like it is ours), the Gold Feather Print (A4) and Silver Shine Print (A4) is sure to brighten up your walls on a cold winter's eve.

Howdy winter - bring on the warm clothes!

Its that time of the year where all your woollies make their way out of the back of the closet and start making there way closer to the front door for an easy grab on the way out the door.  If you find that you have headed to the back of your closet hoping to find something snazzy, lovely and snug only to find mothball ridden items then take a gander and the winter warmers MFP has in store.

First up is the lovely Californian/NZ designer Arielle Mermin.  Always delighting us with her eclectic designs that are super easy to wear, these warmer garments are just as fabulous.  Team the Weekender Dress [$229] with tights and boots and you're good to go.  This lil grey number will also take you through the Spring months being warm yet breathable cotton sweat-shirting.  If you have a hankering for warmth and sparkle then the Space Jumper [$245] is just the ticket.  Ribbed thick cotton to keep you toasty and more space glam than David Bowie could handle!

Arielle's super stripe cotton Desert Poncho [$245] is a real winner if you are looking for a garment to chuck on, look good but feel like you could be at home in you PJs!  Now all us lassies need a solid merino cardi to reach for.  Belle & Beau designer Claire Shewan has designed just that thank goodness!  The Willow Cardigan [$229] is New Zealand made and certified organic NZ merino so you will be snug as a bug with only the goodness of the merino sheep keeping you toasty.

High Noon Tea designer Sheryl White has mixed the perfect amount of warmth and subtle gold glam for her winter cover ups.  The Frenchie Capelet [$165] is a lovely cape that can be thrown on over a dress for an evening out.  Teamed with jeans or slacks the Abby Jumper [$175] is a little bit casual and a little bit fabulous!

If you are looking for a mega warm coat to keep winters chilly tendrils at bay, Silence Was just the one for you.  The Heroine Coat [$455] is fully lined, has 2 large pockets for hands and great fabric we have dubbed 'glamo' (Camo/Glam).  A little bit lighter but still packs a warm punch around the kidneys where its needed is the Dark Knight Jumper [$249] with a neat sheer chiffon shoulder and warm cotton knit body.

Stay warm and visit soon!

Winter goodies in store now!

While Wellingtonians were basking in the last rays of summer sun, someone, somewhere decided that we had had our fill of lovely weather and did a rain dance for the Capital (my guess is those festival chicks at Coachella). Anyone else get drenched like me and Claire this morning?

So, now that winter has well and truly hit Wellington, why don’t you check out some of the new arrivals for AW14 from Arielle Mermin, Silence Was... and High Noon Tea!

For extra cosiness this winter, you can’t go past Arielle Mermin’s new range of knits – her Infinite Scarf is an absolute store favourite, beautifully soft and super long! We’ve paired it with Arielle’s Desert Poncho (which comes in navy too) and a cool 13" satchel from Thick As Thieves. Check out the outfit below:

If you need some extra sparkle in your life, her Moonbeam Dress might be the one for you! A super cool knit dress with a little hint of sparkly gold thread.

And speaking of sparkles, my pick of the season is Silence… Was’ Midnight Sparkle Trouser! The trouser looks great paired with Mardle’s Just Relaxed Tee (which you can find here) or pair with the Rib top from Silence Was... – in store and online soon! Be quick, we only have one pair of these puppies left!

Silence Was... Midnight Sparkle Trouser and Rib Top.

Claire’s pick this season is High Noon Tea’s July dress. A versatile knit piece which can be worn with almost anything, Claire rocks this look with cowboy boots and a smile!

You can always trust High Noon Tea to do a great winter coat, and this year is no different. Introducing the Brooklyn Coat, a double-breasted, military inspired coat with bold feature buttons and a great wide collar to keep you warm. This style will be in store and online soon!

Keep warm over the long weekend everyone! Eat lots of chocolate and hot cross buns... and don't forget to enter our Easter competition in store! The winner will be drawn on Saturday.

A story of a dress (and a thoughtful women).

About 8 or so years ago I was in a fancy store trying on fancy dresses and found a stunning Trelise Cooper 50s style hydrangea dress that upon trying on I didn't think I could live without - until I saw the price tag of $800..Mum/my right shoulder shopping devil! said 'Go on, just get it and put it on layby' - little did she know that if I did this her grandson would indeed eat nothing but noodles and white bread for well over 2 months, so ever so sadly I declined then walked out of the store empty handed.
For many, many years I thought, no no strike that, obsessed over this dress, hunted through Trade Me and Ebay listings and trawled second hand shops. Then one day in my wee Cuba Street store a lovely lass walked in wearing....the dress! (in my size no less!)....I gasped, held my heart and told her the story of how I tried it on and how I have searched far and wide and lusted after it for many moons. She said if she were to ever sell it she would contact me immediately. I thanked her and watched the dress walk out of my life.

Fast forward 3 or so dress-less years (despite more hunting, yes yes...obsessing!) to the current date.

One sunny February day The Madame Fancy Pants Facebook page received a message from the known dress owner/MFP customer saying she had moved to Auckland and stumbled across 'the dress' in a second hand store, in fabulous condition AND in my size and would I like her her to purchase it and send it to me - I of course squealed with girly delight and said YES PLEASE.

So, long story short, thanks to a gorgeous women who remembered a crazy shop lady lusting after her dress 8 odd years down the track I now am the proud owner of the Hydrangea dress. To be worn with cowboy boots for many years to come.
The end.

Thank you Trina!
