Chain Metals - Silver
STERLING SILVER:
Sterling silver is a hardy metal that comprises of 92.5% fine silver and 7.5% other alloys. The stamping for this is .925.
Allergies: Most folks are able to wear .925 jewellery with little irritation.
Care: Sterling silver will tarnish over time depending on air, moisture, sweat, perfumes, and chlorine, turning it a darker, dull colour which you can usually clean easily.
Cleaning: Use a silver polishing cloth or a specialised cleaning solution to restore its shine.
Life Span: Looked after, sterling silver can last a life time.
BASE METAL:
We use Evergleam metal chain with a brass base. This is treated with a hard wearing clear electrostatic finish which repels the moisture and skin acids which cause oxidisation & tarnish.
Allergies: Most folks are able to wear base metal chain with little irritation.
Care: Base metals will tarnish over time depending on air, moisture, sweat, perfumes, and chlorine. Over time the plating will wear, to slow this process down - remove when in water, applying perfume or using chemicals.
Cleaning: Gently clean with a soft cloth. Care must be taken when cleaning plated jewellery as some polishing cloths with harsh chemicals may remove the plating.
Life Span: Looked after, Base metal chains plating can last anywhere from 3-10 years depending on the wear and care of the chain.
