One of a Kind Crystal Necklaces

The lovely Madame has been hiding away the past few weeks handcrafting a range of one of a kind crystal necklaces. These amazing pieces were created using crystals she handpicked over the course of her American travels. Ranging from quartz shards to chunky blocks of amethyst, geometric to contemporary bohemian, there is a sparkling piece for everyone. Take a look at these four amazing pieces and then have a look at the rest of the pieces by clicking HERE.

Super Cute Advent Calendar!

Seriously, there's no need to panic, you still have 5 weeks to sort everything out. That's an age (kind of)! But, you do only have eight days to get yourself an advent calendar to make the counting down fun instead of stressful. Yeah. You should be panicking (kidding).

Now, the cheerful chocolate filled ones are all good. We ladies of  MFP love stuffing our faces with chocolate, even if some of us can't really eat it. However, this year we've got our hands on a very cool, very stylish, very creative little advent calendar and obviously we think you should all get your hands on one too, hence why they're instore and online. Let me visually introduce to you these little pyramids of metallic foiled beauty, and then I'll give you a serious list of all the cool things you can do with them. Panic over!

Yes. Those pretty paper pyramids are advent calendars. And you can choose between gold and silver. I know! So cool!

So, the basic idea is that there are 24 pyramids that are numbered 1 to 24 that you can open carefully from the bottom to put little goodies inside and then hang them up. Um, awesome.

But where to hang them and what to put in them? Well friends, of course you should be getting your creative juices flowing and thinking up ideas yourself, but if you need a little inspiration because life is just too crazy at this time of year, see below.

What to put inside?

A mini photo for each day - draw up little pictures -  make up your own fortunes for next year and print on pretty paper (on that theme try your favourite quotes/song lyrics/a christmas song to play for the day) - CONFETTI- delicious herbal tea for a day you think you might really need it - on that note nice chocolates - make your own vouchers for hugs/kisses/massages/your turn to do the dishes or just buy some vouchers -  girly? lipbalms/hair bows/nail polishes/jewellery - not girly? little toy soldiers/dinosaurs/wind-up toys - Christmas decorations!...

Oh man. I could really go on forever, but I'll let you think of some ideas!

Where to hang them?

On your tree - hide them around the house for an adventurous advent calendar - string them up across your main window - place them on the mantelpiece - hang them on lights - hang them on hooks on a board (DIY times) - basically, anywhere your heart desires!!

Have I convinced you to try something new yet? They're also reusable, win.

I had a lady grab one because she has a bunch of people coming to stay, and she thought she could give everyone a number and then fill each one with a small gift for each person. Cute!

Get counting down to Christmas, it's exciting.

Us MFP gals are pretty big fans of the lovely Eleanor of Petite Kitchen.  We stocked her fabulous sell out journal a few months back, we were all sad to hear she would not be publishing another - until she said she was picked up by a publishing house and would be writing a MEGA Petite Kitchen!

But even luckier for us PK lovers, Eleanor has whipped up a bunch of simply gorgeous 2014 calendars.  12 beautifully photographed recipes and all held together with the touch of natural twine - darling!

An Update From Europe!

Hello out there! This blog post is coming to ya all the way from Wales where I'm snuggled up by the fire with a huge cup of tea. It's been a long time since we've talked, so sit back, relax and enjoy a little update on my European adventuring.

The past six weeks have been an absolute whirlwind of travel. I've been busy busing and backpacking through Europe. I've been to 10 countries, 15 big cities and more little towns and villages than I can possibly count! I've made a crazy amount of friends, seen the most amazing sights, had some wonderful nights out and have eaten so much food. I blame Italy and its gorgeous pizza and gelato for my current struggle to get my jeans to do up! But, it was definitely worth it. I've had the biggest adventure of my life and I'm exhausted, but it's not over yet. The next two weeks will be full of more excitement as I head off to Cambridge and the big smoke of London. I can't wait!

But before I get too excited, let me tell you where I've been; be prepared for a long list. Here we go-  Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Munich, Venice, Rome, Florence and Tuscany, Cinque Terre, Nice, Barcelona, Southend, Liverpool and Chester.

My favourite place? Too hard to choose! Every place I have visited has been perfect in its own way, but I will say this; I'll be back to Berlin for the history, Prague for the beer, Munich for Oktoberfest, Rome for pizza, Tuscany for the rolling hills and lovely people, Cinque Terre for a relaxed week away and Barcelona for everything - architecture, culture, atmosphere, epic nights out, sangria and some of the best shopping in Europe. I've certainly conquered Europe, and there are many stories to tell, but I'll leave them until I return. Hope you can wait that long!

For now I offer you a tiny snapshot of my first day in Europe as a teaser...

Hope you are all doing well back home! Looking forward to seeing you all in MFP, I have travel tips galore!

Rahhr, Friday!!

It’s Friday and the weekend is coming for us faster than a hungry Pachycaphalosaurus.

Which leads us to the question: what are you up to this weekend? Hopefully you have some grand plans and ambitions. If you’ve a lack of dinosaur-related activities, then perhaps a bit of sobering weekend reading is in order:

All my friends are still dead.

In other Friday bits'n pieces:

  • Have you seen the new bar that has moved into the old premises of a Cuba Street Laundromat, just up from us at MFP? I haven’t been to Laundry yet, but definitely looking forward to checking it out.
  • If you’ve no plans for Saturday night, a number of great local bands are playing at Bodega for the Like Minds Concert. And it’s for a good cause – proceeds go to the Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand.

  • So excited to hear that Alice Munro has been awarded the Nobel Prize for literature! If you’re after a book to curl up with for the weekend (having already enjoyed All My Friends Are Still Dead, of course), maybe try Too Much Happiness. Superbly excellent collection of stories. And a bit heartbreaking, though in a quite different way to the sadness of dinosaurs.
  • If the weather stays all grey and dismal, like it’s doing now, and you’re looking to do something a bit creative to do with all the inside hours – we can help! Roller derby embroidery? Or maybe unicorns and cats? A soft owl cushion? (The owl's name is Oswald, even!) Oh, we’ve got this.

Happy weekending!

New Silence Was... now in store!

Some exciting parcels have been coming through the door of 217 Cuba Street of late. Last week, a box labelled ’20 Unicorns’ turned out to, indeed, have twenty tiny unicorns inside. (It was also probably the most magical box I’ve ever opened in my life. Unicorns!)

This week, fresh from Auckland label Silence Was..., we’ve some stunning additions to our Madam Fancy Pants hangers. Two of these new dresses are also gracing our two window mannequins (I’ve nicknamed them Ava and Marie, just secretly, in my head), who are both looking pretty fancy at the mo.

The magnificently cobalt silk Sheer Long Trench is a head-turner for sure – it’s so elegant! So blue! AND it has pockets. Seriously, so much to love about this one.

The Ivana Drape Long Shirt takes the traditional shirt-dress and gives it a bit of edge with a draping, cut-out back. It recently appeared in the latest Remix magazine, looking fabulous and just a bit mysterious.

And if it’s a bright geometric print you’re after, the vivid diamond patterns of The Comfort Top (left) and Love Fiction Shirt Dress (right) are bold and unique and fun. They are also both really light and lovely to wear, which will be super for the summer.

Summer! Allegedly this is something that will be happening soon, but not today it seems – so if you’re in Wellington, I hope you’re wrapped up dry!

Keep warm, kids.

Xx Jen

Wow!

So we’re at that time of year again – the sun is occasionally winning its battle to break through the lingering Wellington winteryness, the clocks have leapt forward by one cruel hour, and the extra bustling in town means that World of Wearable Arts is here again. WoW! It’s a noun and an exclamation. Have you been? Will you go? The show is on for another week and then a few days more, but if you’re not attending this year round (like me, alas), you can still be a part of it all by voting online at the Dominion Post People’s Choice Award, or by planning elaborate hypothetical costumes you will never quite figure out how to actually make.

If you are going, and looking for a WoW-worthy outfit – or perhaps you are just after a more general wow!-worthy outfit – we’ve picked a few pieces to help you out. Look! Here:

High Noon Tea’s impossibly elegant Grace Dress, top right, has all the glamour you need to steer you from the show to some post-event coffees or cocktails. This polyester/cotton mix dress comes in either black or white, and both variations have (quite rightly) been gathering their share of admirers in store.

For a bit of sparkle, Mardle’s Crazy, Crazy Nights Dress is a special wee number, with light touches of gold scattering across the light pink dress and scalloped sequin sleeves. It is a wonderful, shimmery nighttime dress – catching in the bright lights with a glimmer and a flicker.

As for jewelry, of course – to finish it all off – we present to you Madam Fancy Pants’ In Your Eyes I See The Sun Earrings for a bit of Gatsby-esque glamour: twin deco fans which hang from Swarovski crystals. Stunning.

Also in the Madam Fancy Pants range – and bottom left in the image above – are the delicate Maiden You Have My Heart Earrings. Hand hammered brass spikes dangle from Swarovski crystals, and the hooks are sterling silver or 14kt gold fill.

Sorted.

While we’re both here, I’ll use this infinitely formal means that is a blog post to introduce myself. Hello! I’m Jenah, and I’ll be looking after the store during weekdays while Claire is adventuring her way across the land of stars and stripes and curly fries. Come say hi. I’m here Tuesday to Friday (and a reminder that while Claire is away, the store will be closed on Mondays.)

A happy mid-week to you!
